Encouraging Youth

Teaching healthy lifestyle habits is part of Mercy’s commitment to prevention as a part of health care. In 2011, Mercy teamed up with McKinley and Taft Middle Schools’ staff and students to educate students on the dangers of tobacco use and the gimmicks big tobacco corporations use to lure kids into trying tobacco products.

The opportunity for high school students to job shadow is coordinated through the Workplace Learning Connection. This year, students experienced several different job shadow areas within 23 departments at Mercy, including a behind-the-scenes look at the Operating Room with the opportunity to talk to professionals about their jobs.
