Last year 15,464 people took steps to ensure all women have access to the breast care services they need by participating in Mercy’s Annual Especially For You Race Against Breast Cancer. This fund is used locally to provide breast care services, such as mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and support services, for individuals in need. In 2010, 605 individuals received 831 services.
The race and the fund are dedicated to the memory of Sandy Knight, a Whittier resident and General Mills employee who died of breast cancer in July 1991. She helped found Mercy’s Especially For You After Breast Cancer Support Group. Her dream was to establish a race to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and education.
